At Gitanjali Vedika, every celebration is an opportunity to inspire change, and this World Environment Day, the school took a bold and active step toward promoting sustainability, health, and community spirit. With an event that perfectly captured the essence of environmental stewardship, students from Grades 1 to 10 participated in a high-energy Bicycle Race, uniting the themes of eco-awareness and physical fitness in a meaningful and memorable way. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Mr. Dhaval Philip Mathew, a celebrated endurance cyclist and environmentalist, and Mrs. Sonia Nagpal, our dynamic and visionary Principal, who has been the driving force behind Gitanjali Vedika’s green initiatives. Together, they inaugurated the event, flagged off the races, and addressed the gathering with words that were both thought-provoking and inspiring.

In his address to the students, Mr. Dhaval Philip Mathew highlighted the multifaceted benefits of cycling from improving cardiovascular and mental health to reducing one’s carbon footprint. He spoke about the importance of choosing bicycles over motor vehicles, especially in urban environments, to combat pollution and traffic congestion. He urged students to become mindful, responsible citizens who contribute to a sustainable future through small but impactful choices.

In her address, Mrs. Nagpal emphasized the importance of instilling environmental values at a young age. She spoke about the school's mission to nurture responsible global citizens and encouraged students to continue making environmentally conscious choices beyond the event whether by cycling to nearby places, planting trees, or reducing plastic use. Her words resonated deeply with the audience and set the tone for a meaningful and action-oriented celebration.
Spotlight on a Rising Star
One of the proudest moments of the day was the felicitation of Chakilam Sahasra, a talented and hardworking Grade 10 student, who has achieved the remarkable feat of being selected by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in the cycling category. Sahasra was invited on stage and congratulated for her dedication, discipline, and excellence in the sport. Her achievement is not only a personal milestone but also a beacon of inspiration for all students who aspire to excel in sports while upholding the values of perseverance and commitment.
Sahasra’s recognition served as a powerful reminder that dreams can be achieved through focus, hard work, and the right support system something that Gitanjali Vedika prides itself on offering to every student.
A Race with Purpose
The race itself was a lively and heartening affair. With colorful helmets, shining bicycles, and eager faces, the school grounds buzzed with excitement. Students pedaled with enthusiasm, cheered on by peers, teachers, and proud parents. The event was carefully organized into categories based on age groups, ensuring inclusivity and safety for all participants.
Beyond the thrill of competition, the race served as a symbolic gesture toward sustainable transportation and a healthier lifestyle. It helped students experience the joy of movement, the strength of community, and the responsibility they hold toward the environment.
