English declamation grades 5-6

‘GREAT MINDS’, an Inter-House Declamation Competition was organised at Gitanjali Devashray on the 19th of December 2022. Bright young students of Grades 5 & 6 took part in the event.

The management of the school has always laid stress on the need for such programs at regular intervals. The aim being to constantly broaden the horizons and offer students varied and enriching perspectives.

The contest required participants to select a speech to be delivered in public and perform an excerpt of that speech for the audience. What made the orations unique in this challenge was the contestants choosing a personality from the current times for the declamation. This added to the relevance of the exercise and the children could relate more to the personality they were portraying.

The list of achievers emulated by the contenders included, Richard Turere, a young Masai warrior with his ‘Lion Lights’; Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google; Female Captain par excellence, Mithali Raj; the very able in spite of this disability, Sparsh Shah; the young and dynamic Swedish activist, Greta Thunberg; reaching for the skies, pilot Anne Divya; on a mission to Mars, Elon Musk and the very first female IPS Officer of India, Dr. Kiran Bedi.

The speeches were impassioned, inspiring and delivered with panache. The participants outdid themselves splendidly and their words resonated with the audience. The event was judged by the HOD, Social Science Department of the school, Mrs. Nilanjana Biswas.

It proved to be an enthralling and engaging session that left a lasting impression on all present. In all, ‘GREAT MINDS’ made everyone sit up and get inspired which was, its ultimate goal.
