Experience with WASH Session: Session Two

The session covered a wide range of topics, starting with composting at home, which emphasized how easy it is to turn organic waste into valuable resources. We were also reminded of the alarming amount of plastic waste in landfills and oceans, and the role we play in reducing this through better waste management. A notable highlight was learning about waste segregation, specifically how Goa practices 16 types of waste segregation, setting an example for the rest of the country.

We discussed the importance of borrowing, thrifting, and using alternatives like Bharatan bank cutlery instead of disposable items. The idea of donating extra food to GHMC food banks rather than wasting it or even donating our clothes.

We were also explored the concept of upcycling, where waste materials can be transformed into creative art or useful items, and how waste collection drives can help in community efforts to minimize waste. The session concluded with a valuable lesson on limited resources, demonstrated by giving out only 25 chocolates to the class where one could pick as many as they liked and just after a few students had picked up the chocolates, they were over. Some of the students did not get any chocolates. This demonstrated how important it is to be mindful of what we consume. It was a powerful reminder of our responsibility to protect the planet through small, conscious actions.

Overall, the session was not only educational but also inspiring, encouraging us to rethink our daily habits and make more sustainable choices while spreading what we learnt to ten more people we know,  to have a positive impact on our Earth.
