Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Capacity-Building Sessions for Teachers

Gitanjali Vedika School conducted insightful and engaging Social Emotional Learning (SEL) sessions led by the School Counselor, specially designed to empower teachers with practical strategies to support students’ emotional and social development. Recognizing the varying needs of different age groups, the sessions were customized separately for Primary and Middle School teachers.

For Primary teachers, the session focused on age-appropriate SEL activities that help young learners identify emotions, develop empathy, build self-regulation, and strengthen positive classroom relationships. Teachers were introduced to interactive methods such as storytelling, circle time discussions, emotion charts, and play-based activities that seamlessly integrate SEL into everyday classroom practices.

For Middle School teachers, the session addressed the emotional and psychological transitions of adolescents. Emphasis was placed on activities that promote self-awareness, responsible decision-making, stress management, peer relationships, and resilience. Teachers gained insights into facilitating reflective discussions, journaling, group activities, and role plays to help students navigate academic pressure, social dynamics, and emotional challenges.

The sessions highlighted how SEL activities positively impact students’ behaviour, academic engagement, emotional well-being, and overall personality development. Teachers actively participated, shared classroom experiences, and explored ways to embed SEL into their teaching practices.
