Ugadi Celebrations

The Pre-primary and the primary children celebrated the festival of Ugadi or Samvatsaradi which marks the beginning of the new year according to the Hindu calander.

The pre-primary classrooms were decorated with Rangoli, flowers and mango leaves. Dressed in their ethnic best, the children brought in a vibrant festive feel to the day.  The teachers spoke to them about the festival. The children made Ugadi pachadi with the teacher's help and shared it with all, along with the sweet and namkeen they got. They made beautiful torans and did craft activities relating to the festival.

The primary children learnt to make Ugadi pachadi, and understood the relevance of the six ingredients used in making it. The six different tastes, i.e., sour, sweet, bitter, salty, spicy and pungent signifies the various moods of life. Later, the children did drawings related to Ugadi festival.
