Van Mahotsav Celebrations

“The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.” – John Muir

At Gitanjali Vedika, Van Mahotsav was celebrated with great enthusiasm, purpose, and a deep-rooted commitment to environmental stewardship. This annual festival of trees was marked by a series of engaging and meaningful activities that aimed to instill in students a profound appreciation for nature and a sense of responsibility toward preserving it.

The day commenced with a vibrant and heartwarming special assembly presented by the students of Grade 4. The young learners, adorned in creative tree costumes, took to the stage to recite a powerful poem that highlighted the indispensable role of trees in sustaining life on Earth. Their poetic expressions resonated deeply with the audience, emphasizing the message that trees are not merely a part of nature, they are the very essence of life. The students also shared thoughtful insights on the significance of Van Mahotsav Week, shedding light on why it is celebrated and how each individual can contribute to protecting our green heritage.

Following the assembly, students of Grades 5 to 8 participated in an enriching educational session where they viewed a thought-provoking documentary. The film explored the origins of Van Mahotsav, tracing its inception back to 1950, when it was initiated by K.M. Munshi, the then Union Minister for Agriculture, with the vision of creating mass awareness about forest conservation and afforestation. The documentary eloquently captured the essence of this green movement, exploring both its historical relevance and its growing importance in today’s world threatened by climate change and ecological degradation.

To reinforce their learning, a quiz was conducted based on the documentary. Students showcased impressive enthusiasm and attentiveness, answering questions that reflected a genuine understanding of the environmental themes presented. The quiz served as an interactive and reflective exercise, encouraging students to think critically about the role they can play in safeguarding the planet.

The celebrations culminated with students planting saplings and sowing seeds within the school premises. This hands-on activity not only symbolized their commitment to nurturing Mother Earth but also served as a lasting reminder that small acts of care can grow into a greener, healthier tomorrow.
