World Environment Day Celebration 2023

World Environment Day was celebrated in our school as part of our No Bag Day initiative. The event aimed to instill a love for nature among children from grades 1 to 9. Each child had the wonderful opportunity to plant saplings in pots they brought from home. These pots will be kept in school, allowing the children to nurture their plants throughout the year.

The school provided the saplings for the children, ensuring a variety of plant species were available. This allowed the children to learn about different types of plants and their importance in creating a healthy environment.

In addition to the planting activity, various other engaging events including cycling race were organized to celebrate this special day. Grade 2 children showcased and spoke about their creative use of biodegradable waste materials, demonstrating their 'Kabaad se Jugaad' (innovation from waste). This activity encouraged recycling and the utilization of eco-friendly materials.

Meanwhile, the Grade 1 children had an exciting nature hiking experience within the school premises. They explored the diverse range of plants, learning about their unique characteristics and contributions to our ecosystem.

To enhance knowledge and awareness, a plant and tree quiz was conducted for grades 1 to 3. This quiz emphasized the importance of plants and trees in maintaining a healthy environment and showcased their significant role in our lives.

The Grade 3 children participated in a block printing activity on cloth bags using apple halves. This creative endeavor helped them understand the concept of reusing materials and reducing waste. The printed bags will serve as a reminder to promote eco-friendly practices and reduce the use of plastic bags.

Students of Grade IV were taken on Nature Walk to the ground, Gurukul area, entrance of the school and backside of Principal’s office to make a report on “Scavenger Hunt”. Students were told to observe the nature closely and chalk down the points on the kinds of insects they saw in the soil, different kinds of birds, things which could be recycled, colour of the leaves on the tree and fallen on the ground. Later, students were told to write their observations. Through this the students learnt the varied aspects of nature and felt relieved and fresh.

To create awareness on plantation drive, the students of Grade V created hanging garden. The students brought red hanging pots with them and the teacher provided them with varied saplings which were to be planted in those pots in their respective classroom railing. Their task is to observe their plants daily and at the end of the month pen down their observations. Students are enthusiastic to watch their little saplings grow.

To commemorate World Environment Day, Grade VI organized an activity on “Environmental Changes” The students were divided into groups of four and were told to make posters to create awareness on Environmental Changes. The students left everyone in awe with their creativity.

To mark the occasion of World Bicycle Day, many students came to school on their bicycles. To make things more interesting, a cycling race was conducted in which 32 students from grades VII to IX participated. Everyone was enthralled by their performance. Through this activity, the participants learnt the importance of cycling in maintaining their health and fitness, and in reducing pollution.

Overall, the World Environment Day celebrations at our school provided a platform for children to actively engage with nature, learn about environmental conservation, and develop a deep-rooted appreciation for our natural surroundings.
