Gitanjali Devshala, operated by Gitanjali Educational and Welfare Society, at Sappers Lines, Secunderabad was started in June 1997 with an aim to provide quality education with a perfect blend of extra – curricular activities. With classes from Nursery to Class X and affiliation to the ICSE Board, Devshala now has strength of about 1200 students.

The school was started with 400 students with 35 teachers. The school has grown rapidly and is now considered the most prestigious school in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

The Gitanjali system of education is designed to maximize the all round development of the child’s potential by providing complete academic support while building life skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration and physical skills in a nurturing values based environment for every child to move forward with confidence.

Gitanjali believes that the success of an educational institution should be measured by the value it adds to each individual.

Sports, physical education, yoga, theatre, music, computer education, art, library, value education, creative writing, general knowledge are all integrated in the school curriculum. The school also has a one hour hobby period per week where children can choose from Karate, Skating, Western and Indian dance, Robotics, Table Tennis, Keyboard, etc.

The school provides professional training facilities for games such as Cricket, Throw ball, basketball, Tennis, etc.

The Schools STEM programme encourages a scientific temperament, innovation and creativity giving the students the joy of ‘learning by doing’. Social Sciences are made relevant through experiential learning. ICT forms an integral part of all teaching –learning practices.

A unique film based value education programme, integrates moral values, life skills and decision-making skills through entertaining films and interesting activities.

Children participate in a wide range of Inter – House and Inter School competitions which help in fostering team spirit, healthy competition and sportsmanship. The school recognizes and supports children who participate at state and national level competitions.

Excursions and picnics in and around the city are organized every year. Educational tours are also conducted for students with the motto ‘Know Your Country”.

A special section for the mild to moderate mentally challenged children was started in Gitanjali Devshala in 1997. These differently – abled children are integrated into the regular stream as per their abilities. The focus is on developing life skills and encouraging social integration. Under the guidance of our three special educators, children have completed the 10^th class examination under the National Institute of Open School (NIOS). One of our ex-students, Varun, started a printing press and Rishabh participated in the Special Olympics held in London and won a Silver Medal in Swimming. Aditya and Samuel have become well –known singers and have sung for many regional and Hindi movies.

Gitanjali Devshala, today stands on the threshold of completing two decades of providing students with an ideal learning environment. Our success is a testament of our commitment to provide students with contemporary and progressive education.

Academics have always been our strength and our results at the ICSE Board Examinations are always exceptional. More than 75% of our students secure Distinctions. Academic results are excellent not because we are selective but because our teaching is methodical, comprehensive and well planned. Each subject in Devshala is applied to everyday life by means of innumerable projects, assignments and activities thereby developing the student’s skills in enquiry, creative thinking and problem solving. Our dedicated teachers play the role of mentor and facilitator.

Sports help students develop a holistic approach to life and improve their all round ability. The school provides training in over 15 disciplines like basketball, cricket, tennis, karate, skating, TT, yoga and many more. Our students have been excelling and winning laurels in various sporting events at the interschool, state and national level.

We provide a unique blend of modernity with tradition, inculcating in our students a deep respect for our values, while sensitizing them to a global outlook. Students are exposed to international experiences through presentations, excursions and activities to promote global citizenship. This cultural awareness helps all our students feel at home anywhere in the world. Debates, elocutions and MUNs help our students engage in contemporary issues both on a communal and global scale.

To prepare our children for the 21st Century, we believe in the effective use of Technology. Smart Classes, Robotics, projectors, film making, photography all make the use of ICT more meaningful. Technology has made the world a smaller place for our students, helping them build relationships across borders, collaborating with two schools in UK, one in the USA and another in Singapore. The Intach Club of Devshala won 2 awards for their short films for best Cinematography and Best Screenplay.

Students of each class actively and enthusiastically participate in compulsory community service activities every year. Over the years they conducted Fund Raisers and collected funds for various Relief initiatives taken up by the local bodies and the government. They have also contributed their time and resources to orphanages, old age homes, Home for the Destitute etc. Our Interact Club is actively involved in helping Government schools under the aegis of the Rotary Club of Jubilee Hills.

We recognise that parental participation is a vital component in a child’s education. We provide parents with opportunities for healthy interactions through seminars, talks by experts, open days etc. organised by the school.

We measure our success by our students rising high in their chosen spheres, leading the way in the top colleges and universities across the world. We believe passionately that our children – each and every one of them will leave school uniquely empowered by the Gitanjali philosophy of education to lead life to the fullest and be the very best they can be. I can safely say that delivering well rounded education isn’t a principal but a practice in Devshala.
